Gryphs solidly in second spot in AP 3-A poll

The Associated Press released its N.C. High School Football polls tonight and Rocky Mount maintained its No. 2 spot in the rankings, but the Gryphons did receive three first-place votes.

Guess who has jumped into the No. 3 spot - NEW 6 foe SouthWest Edgecombe. I watched the Cougars run all over Southern Vance Monday evening in their makeup game from last Friday. SWE nearly had three 100-yard rushers, and it mixed in the pass as well - including a 31-yard TD pass on a fourth-and-nine!

Losses by North Gaston (No. 3), Kannapolis Brown (No. 4) and Hertford County (No. 5) opened the way for the Cougars to grab the No. 3 ranking.
