Cary ties series with 6-3 victory Tuesday

CARY - A 30-minute weather delay Tuesday night seemed to really affect Rocky Mount Post 58 more than it did Cary Post 67 in the Game 2 battle for the American Legion Area I title.

Post 58 saw a 2-1 lead disappear as Cary scored four runs in the third on its way to a 6-3 victory. Post 58 will travel back to Cary Wednesday for Game 3. The first pitch will be at 7 p.m.

After RM took a 1-0 lead in the first, Post 67 countered with a run in the bottom of the second to tie it at 1-all. Tyler Clark slammed a solo home run to lead off the third to put Post 58 up 2-1. Collins Cuthrell followed with a double, but was left stranded at second base.

A two-run double from Dillon Rubio and an RBI triple from Anthony Colantino off Post 58 starter Spencer Bell fueled a four-run uprising from Cary to put it up 5-2.

After Cary posted another run in the fourth for a 5-3 advantage, Thomas Berry put a dent in Cary's lead with a solo home run in the eighth.

Post 58, however, couldn't muster any more firepower on a night that saw it only record six hits. Mike Smith, who tallied five hits in Game 1 Monday, didn't even reach base Tuesday.
