Brown named to AP All-State Women's Basketball Team

Rocky Mount junior J'Kyra Brown
RALEIGH - The 2011-12 Associated Press All-State prep basketball teams for North Carolina, as selected by 22 sports writers across the state, were released Thursday.

Rocky Mount junior J'Kyra Brown was the Twin Counties' only selection to either the men's or women's squad. She was also the Big East Conference Player of the Year and was also named to the All-State 3-A Girls Team.

Brown, who has verbally committed to East Carolina, led Rocky Mount to a 26-4 record and the NCHSAA 3-A East Regional finals. It was the first time since 1992 Rocky Mount's girls had advanced that far in the playoffs.

She led the Lady Gryphons in scoring (23.3 ppg.), assists (3.2 apg.), steals (3.3 spg.) and was second in rebounding (6.1 rpg).

Brown will enter her senior season with 1,115 points and she is very much in reach of becoming the school's all-time girls basketball scorer - surpassing the late Kim Taylor with 1,600 points.

Here is the complete women's team.
