Goodwin has superb game in professional debut

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Hagertsown Suns, a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, scored six runs in the second inning before going down 9-6 in their season opener Thursday evening.

Former Rocky Mount High and UNC/Miami Dade JUCO standout Brian Goodwin, in his professional debut, slammed a two-run home run that helped tie the game at 9-all in the sixth inning.

The Suns tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth and held on for the 11-9 win. Goodwin finished the night going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Ironically, the Suns moved to Maryland from Rocky Mount, where they were called the Rocky Mount Phillies and played at the now demolished Municipal Stadium. They moved in 1981.

Strangely, the Suns' current stadium is called "Municipal Stadium."

Former Red Sox great Brian Daubach is the manager. I love it...
