Former Rocky Mount football coach takes over at Granville Central

John Hammett is making a return to the football sidelines.

Hammett, who spent four seasons as Rocky Mount's head football coach, was last a head coach at Oxford Webb.

But Hammett made a career change. He decided to go into the administrative side of education and was serving as an elementary school assistant principal in Granville County.

At end of last month, he accepted the head football coaching job at Granville Central High School - a relatively new high school that enters its third year of varsity football this fall. He replaces Don Colgan at the post.

Hammett made a return to Rocky Mount as Webb's head coach in the Warriors' second round 2008 NCHSAA 3-A state playoff game against the Gryphons. RMHS prevailed 48-14.

Charles why do you continue to publish stories about people who were not intricate parts of RMSH. This guy if anything was one of the worst coaches to walk the sidelines of RMSH and tried to intentionally destroy the careers of players and coaches alike. If you want a good story to publish, look at former gryphons that make positive contributions to the greater Rocky Mount area.

A. He was coach of the Gryphons for four seasons. I'd call that an intricate part of RM's football history - good or bad.
B. The post was just informational. It was not a biography of the man.
I liked him as a person, but I didn't play for him. And that shows a whole another side of a person. You can hate a person's ways without hating the person.
