KNIGHTDALE - Like last season, both of Rocky Mount's varsity basketball teams will play in the Triangle Tip-off Tournament at Knightdale High School next Friday and Saturday. HighSchoolOT.com is the title sponsor of the event.
"The teams that came had a great time, it is good, early competition to get a good look at the teams," said Knightdale head coach Battle Watkins, organizer of the event, to HighSchoolOT.com. "To high school sports fans it's kind of an alternative to the shopping malls and stuff during Thanksgiving weekend."

The tournament, in its second season, will feature eight boys and four girls teams. The boys teams include Athens Drive, East Chapel Hill, Wilson Fike, Knightdale, Millbrook, Rocky Mount, Sanderson and Wake Forest-Rolesville. Girls squads attending will be Wilson Fike, Knightdale, Rocky Mount and Wake Forest-Rolesville.
Rocky Mount is the defending boys champion and returns to the field after winning the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A state championship last year. Rocky Mount's girls placed third in the event last year.
There will be six games each day, beginning at 11 a.m. Rocky Mount's girls will open against Wake Forest-Rolesville at 2 p.m. The Gryphon boys will follow with Millbrook at 3:30 p.m. RMHS has not played Millbrook since losing to the Wildcats in the opening round of the 2005 4-A state playoffs.
"We're really excited about the event this year," said Watkins. "If the tournament becomes the event that we hope it will be, it will be a chance for kids to get some exposure."
Look for the tournament game schedules right here over the next few days!
