For several years, the Rocky Mount High husband-wife duo of Mike and Pam Gainey have been the only married couple who each coach a varsity sport in the Nash-Rocky Mount school system.
That will change next month!
Chris and Michelle Huffman will double that number to two. Pending signing all the paper work, the couple will be in the N-RM system as head varsity coaches. But unlike the Gaineys, the Huffmans will be at different schools.
Husband Chris will take on the head varsity baseball coaching duties at Nash Central, while wife Michelle will be the new head softball coach at Rocky Mount High. The couple hope to move their family to the area next month. They are the proud parents of a five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son.
Chris, 38, comes to Nash Central after four seasons as head coach at Fayetteville's Terry Sanford High. He is a Hoke County native, and a graduate of Douglas Byrd High and UNC-Pembroke. Michelle, 29, is a native of Fayetteville and is a South View High and UNC-Pembroke grad. She has been the head softball coach at Gray's Creek High since the school opened four years ago.
I'd like to welcome the Huffmans to the area and we all look forward to seeing them bring success to their respective squads.
