The 6-foot-6 forward led the Gryphons to their second NCHSAA 3-A state championship in three years last month in a 78-64 win over Hickory at UNC's Dean Smith Center. He led the team in scoring (19.7) and rebounding (7.6) and closed his career on the edge of scoring 1,000 points (930).
Wingate, located in Monroe, is a member of the South Atlantic Conference, which includes Lenior-Rhyne and Catawba. The Bulldogs went 21-12 last season while advancing to the NCAA Div. II playoffs.
